Alabama Veterans Affairs Association is the oldest nonprofit organization of its kind, founded in 1974, dedicated to serving our educational professionals that serve our military students and their families.
The 2021 Alabama Veterans Affairs Association (AVAA) Annual Training Conference has started! We are excited to be back on site with everyone and still offering a hybrid/virtual conference option for those that are not yet able to travel and participate in person. We are underway at the Orange Beach Event Center (at the Wharf) in Orange Beach, Alabama from Monday, October 18 through Wednesday, October 20, 2021. The final agenda for the conference is located below and on the training page.
Open Board Positions
The below positions are open for nomination through 6:30 pm Tuesday, October 19, 2021. Ballots will open for voting following the President's Dinner Tuesday night. Voting will conclude Wednesday afternoon at 3pm. The newly elected board will be announced at the end of the conference day on Wednesday, October 20. The newly elected members will have their first meeting on Thursday, October 21st. To nominate someone to run for a position, he/she must be a current member in good standing of AVAA. Submit nominations via the conference Zoom chat or using the Chat feature on this website. Please make sure that you have the nominees permission to submit his/her name prior to submitting.

As you prepare your travel plans, please be aware that we will taking every precaution to keep the meeting facility sanitized and to socially distance as much as possible during our time together. We have a large meeting space and will be able to spread out to take part in our presentations and still be able to learn together in person. Every effort is being made to individually package food items and snacks that will be provided during our time together. Per state and local guidance, the wearing of masks in the hotel and the conference center is optional. During coffee breaks and food disbursement periods, those handing out food and beverages will have the proper precautionary protections in place to serve attendees in the most responsible way possible. Hand sanitizer will be available throughout the venue.
If you have not yet turned in your Baffle Raffle items, please bring to the registration desk.
Please take a moment to peruse the silent auction items and bid. All proceeds from the silent auction and the live auction (items displayed behind silent auction) will go to Operation ReConnect.
Conference PowerPoints will be added as received. For the VA presentations, since they are constantly being updated with information as it is released, we do not expect to load those presentations until the day of the actual presentation on site.
Don't forget to bring Baffle Raffle items from your schools! This is always a fun time to network and get to know the other schools serving in our region.

Service Project Reminder
We have chosen to work with Operation ReConnect this year in support of the amazing work that they are doing to support returning soldiers and their families. Check out their website at the link below to learn more about them. You will get a chance to meet some of their leaders at our conference and proceeds from our long-sleeve t-shirt sales this year will be donate to Operation ReConnect to help them serve our military families as they are returning to civilian life and reconnecting with their families. We are honored to be able to provide you with the opportunity to order a shirt to support this outstanding organization.
